Your newborn baby is precious and their safety comes second to none at your photo shoot.
Read MoreAs a newborn and baby photographer, I have to take the safety of my little clients very seriously. It might surprise you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely unregulated. Photographers like me, who take safety seriously, have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create, are done safely.

While we were getting to ready to start with family photos, we talked about the risks of getting pee'd and poo'd on when handling a naked baby. Madison's mum and I were wearing matching white tops (thank you Asda) which are lovely tops for photos but are a little risky around a tiny naked bum.

I laid him down and got some natural photos while he got comfy and then when he was in a nice deep sleep I wrapped him up in a dark grey wrap.
This little guy is the perfect example of just how fast life can go some times.
One minute you're 22, at Uni and your housemate is throwing Maoam at you down the corridor. Next thing you know, you're in your 30s and you're photographing their newborn son.
Everyone meet Lylah. This gorgeous little thing was towards the older end of the timescale that I offer newborn photo shoots so she was on the wriggly side!
My main aim for her session was to get some beautiful images with her mum as well as some images in props.
I first met this little family back in 2015 when they had their first son Casper.
I travelled to their house in St. Albans for their session where little Casper played hard ball and did not want to settle. He wasn't having the happiest of days so in the end I decided it would be best if I went away and tried again another day.
In the end his parents got a lovely gallery of images to choose from of both awake and sleepy images.
I love photographing twins. Some photographers think of it as extra work but I love having a spare baby. One twin crying? That's ok, just pass me the other until we're good to go again.
I also find that when they are together they settle each other so well. They're so used to being together in the womb that they love being close.
That was exactly the case with Jacob and Imogen when I met them and their mum and dad a few weeks ago.
Read MoreI first met the Montgomery family before they even became the Montgomery family back in September 2015.
There was talk of a wedding but the main focus at that time was the little bump that was soon to arrive.
The majority of their session took place at their house in High Wycombe (which is one of the most hilly places i've ever been!)

Read MoreWhen it comes to newborn photography, some babies are nice and sleepy and others are way to interested in the world around them to sleep. I can't count the amount of times i've lost out to a window or a twirling ceiling fan.

I had just completed 15 Christmas Mini sessions with under 5s and it was lovely to leave the mayhem behind and get back to the sleepy cuteness.
Meet little Lachlan, the most gorgeous little boy with a genuinely lovely family.
When I first heard that the family wanted an Irish, Rugby, Autumn themed newborn baby photoshoot I've got to say, I wasn't quite sure how I was going to get it all to work together.
Of course the only real answer was to go shopping!
When Jame's family were searching for a lifestyle newborn photographer in Hemel Hempstead I'm so glad they came across my website.
James was a little older than the usual 5 - 10 day olds that I photograph in a posed session but was the perfect age for some relaxed lifestyle photos with his mum and dad.
We started upstairs in their beautiful bedroom where the summer sun was shining in through their large windows.
I laid James down on the bed and captured all those tiny details that won't stay tiny for long!
A few weeks ago Joshua and his family came to my house in Hemel Hempstead for their newborn photography session.
This little guy was a completely dream to work with and I got some beautiful images.
As usual, I started with wrapped images to get him into that super sleepy mood.
I can get three really lovely shots from the pose below - his whole body, his feet and a close up of his face.
I think we should take a second to appreciate his amazing hair. I LOVE it!
After we'd finished on the plainer blankets, it was time to get out the fluff!
He snuggled into the posing bowl perfectly and even flashed a cheeky smily :)
His mum decided to leave Joshua's big brother at home with his dad for first part of the session and then bring him round when we were ready for him. This meant he was ready and raring to go when it came time for sibling photos.
Joshua had started to wake up a little at this point so I wrapped him up snug and made sure he was ready for some big brother love.
I LOVE this family photo. So much in fact that I have used it in a sample product for my Reveal Sessions and gifted them a HUGE print of it.
As much as it may look like they're sitting there nicely together, much running and playing was required to get that bottom in mums lap!
It was a million percent worth it for the result :)
As names come and go in and out of fashion, I did wonder if I would ever get to photograph a baby with my own name. Turns out I didn't have to wait long!
Rebecca's mummy got in touch while she pregnant and booked for both maternity and newborn pictures. You can read all about her maternity session Here.
A few weeks later I went back and met Rebecca at her house in St Albans. I set up my giant beanbag and blanket backdrops in their living room and started with some wrapped pictures to help her drift off to sleep.
This lilac wrap was actually a gift from a past client and this is the first time I've used it. I think the colour is beautiful and the texture is perfect to have it fading away into the background.
Sometimes it's nice to transfer to the next pose (this case on her side) while keeping to the same wrap. That way she didn't need to be uncovered and therefore stayed nice and warm and settled.
After pictures on the bean bag it was time to mix things up a little and include some texture.
She was a little awake at first so I wrapped her up again, this time keeping her little legs free and placed her into my newborn posing bowl.
Once she had settled back into a deep sleep I slowly unwrapped her and captured lots of different angles as well as those very important details.
Now I like a good chunky newborn baby and this little guy did not disappoint! Just check out these adorable newborn rolls!
He looks so comfortable curled up on his tummy.
I get asked to include all kinds of things in newborn photos but this was the first time I've included golf balls (Update: This is becoming quite popular now!)
Apparently dad is looking forward to some good father and son golf days when he's older :)
When Harry's mum showed me the teddies that she wanted to include, I knew exactly what to do with them. They were pretty much identical in size and just longing to be hugged. I placed him on my fur blanket, curled him up and then carefully placed his cuddly friends. The photo came out perfectly!
I can't wait to photograph him with them at his 6 month session to show just how much he's grown.
This image is 'backlit' (I took it from the shadow side rather than the light) and the contrast and texture of the blanket makes it a perfect black and white newborn photo.
I encourage all my families to at least get a few lifestyle photos together at the end of their session. Existing in photos with your children is SO important.
They don't have to be fancy - just a few family photos that your little one can look back on once they've grown up.
I love looking back at family photos - don't you?
