13 Fun Photo Activities for Kids
/A photograph doesn’t just have to be about standing still and smiling. It can be an adventure, a story and a lot of fun!
We all know how much kids love taking photos (especially when it means they can hold your phone!)
Long gone are the days of waiting ages to get a film developed and begging parents to pay for a 1 hour turn around in boots! Children now get to view their creations straight away and create artwork with filters and effects that will have then crying with laughter.
There are loads of fun photo activities you can either do as a family or set as a task for your little one to do alone.
Here are 13 fun photo activity ideas to try:
Create a time lapse video - It’s much easier than it sounds I promise. All you need is something simple to move (like a toy) and an app on your phone. You can find a blog post about it Here.
A photo scavenger hunt - Get them searching high and low around the house for certain items. This is a great way to teach them colours and letters without realising they’re learning. You can download an Indoor Scavenger Hunt List Here.
A photo a day challenge - Get them to tell you why they chose to photograph what they did each day.
Learn ABCs - Ask them to photograph things starting with each letter of the alphabet (you could start with the letters in their name)
Learn colours - Ask them to photograph different coloured objects around the house.
Write a story - Take a photo (or lots of them) and write a story using them as prompts.
Make an album together - Create either an online or printed album of all their favourite photos. It could be from a favourite holiday, a special time in your life or even just their favourite photos of all time. They can decorate it afterwards and it’ll be great to look make on together in the future as a family.
What makes them happy? - Take photos of things that make them happy over the day.
A selfie challenge - Take a photo every day for a certain amount of time, whether that’s a week, a month or even longer.
Play ‘photo shoots’ - Let them boss your family around into poses and actions. The rule is you can’t say no!
Get some exercise - While on a walk, stop and take a photo of something every 50 or 100 steps.
A day in the life - Document a regular day from beginning to end. Start with teeth brushing and end with a bedtime story.
Learn to edit - You can get some great editing apps for phones these days and you know how quick your child will learn how to use it! Let them get creative and add borders, effects and funny filters. If you search for Children’s photo editing in the app store you will find loads of options to choose from.
