Why Book a Maternity Photo Shoot and When Is the Best Time?
/Being a portrait photographer means I get to photograph lots of important stages in people’s lives, and Maternity Photo Shoots are always particularly lovely.
Pregnancy can bring plenty of highs and lows, lots of anticipation and, understandably, sometimes a few worries too.
Today, I want to share a little more about why you might choose to book a maternity photo shoot and the best time to plan one.
Why Book a Maternity Photo Shoot?
Celebrating Your Pregnancy: Pregnancy is a significant time in your life, but it can be difficult to appreciate all the changes while you’re actually going through them. A maternity photo shoot gives you the chance to pause, celebrate your bump and document this stage before your baby arrives.
Creating Lasting Memories: Although pregnancy may not always feel quick while you’re in it, your bump will soon be gone. Maternity photographs give you something tangible to look back on and, one day, show your child too.
Feeling Good About Yourself: Maternity photo shoots are not only about documenting your bump. They are also an opportunity to celebrate what your body is doing and hopefully help you feel really good about yourself. You don’t need to know how to pose or feel completely confident in front of the camera. I’ll guide you throughout the shoot and help you find poses that feel comfortable and flattering.
When is the Best Time to Book?
The ideal time for a maternity photo shoot is usually between 30 and 35 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your bump should be beautifully round, but you’ll hopefully still feel comfortable enough to move between poses.
Every pregnancy is different, though, so your own comfort and circumstances are important. If you’re expecting multiples, think you may be induced or give birth early, or have any medical concerns, arranging your shoot a little earlier may be a better option.
I recommend booking at least four weeks in advance to give you the best choice of dates. If you’ve left it until the last minute, it is still worth getting in touch as I may have some availability.
Capturing and Displaying Your Maternity Images
Your chosen photographs are provided as downloadable digital images, which are yours to share, print and display in your home however you choose.
Here are a few ways you could display your maternity photographs:
Wall Art: A favourite maternity portrait can make a beautiful piece of wall art. Some clients choose to display theirs in a bedroom or another more private area of their home.
Photo Book: A photo book keeps all your maternity images together in one place. It can become a lovely keepsake for you and something to show your child as they grow up.
Announcement Cards: You could use one of your images to announce your pregnancy or your baby’s arrival to friends and family.
Digital Album: Keeping your photographs together in a digital album makes them easy to find, look back on and share with the people closest to you.
A Maternity Photo Shoot is a chance to document your pregnancy, celebrate your changing body and create photographs of a stage that can easily become a bit of a blur once your baby arrives.
