Social Distancing Friendly Pregnancy Announcement Ideas
If you’ve found your way here I can only assume you are pregnant so a MASSIVE congratulations to you!
(Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me!)
So now comes the fun part - how are you going to announce it to your friends and family?
If you’re looking for ideas where you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home - you’ve come to the right place! You want something fun, something memorable and something easy (because hello, you’re pregnant and are busy growing a baby right now!)
Video Chat
Let’s face it, the reaction you get when you tell someone you’re pregnant is what makes it so fun so the perfect way to capture that reaction is with a video chat.
Whether you’re telling one person at a time or the whole family all at once, gather everyone together for a ‘chat’ on an app like ZOOM, HouseParty or WhatsApp and you’ll get to see the excitement on their faces as you tell them the news. You could even turn on screen capturing and video the whole thing!
There are so many ways you could announce you’re pregnant via video chat.
Play a game - Some Apps like HouseParty have games attached to them like Pictionary. Why not draw baby related things until someone catches on.
Reveal t-shirt - Wear a t-shirt with a slogan like ‘mummy to be’ or ‘2 become 3 this September’ and wait for someone to catch on.
Wait till they notice - I don’t know about you but I don’t stop what I’m doing when on a video chat. I’ll chop vegetables or do the washing up. Why not start folding baby grows and wait for the confusion.
Post something in advance - Send everyone you’re telling something in the post and get them to open it at the same time. This could be a card or a Baby Reveal Scratch Card (you can get them from Amazon)
The Reveal Photo
Whether you’re sending it to one person or posting it on Social Media, putting together a reveal photo can be really fun.
A scan photo - An easy classic. Post your scan photo with a little caption like ‘Baby Smith - Coming September 2020’
Include a hobby - There’s nothing cuter than a tiny version of something so why not include a miniature version of something you love. So for me that might be a picture of two big camera’s for parents and a smaller one to show a baby is on the way. If you’re into gaming you could have two game controllers and then a toy controller or two big sets of ski’s with some tiny ski’s in between.
Shoes - Set up your camera and take a photo of both your and your partners feet with some baby shoes next to you.
Include the dog (other animals also allowed) - Photograph your beloved pet with a sign saying ‘promoted to big brother’, ‘new tummy scratcher coming May 2021’ or ‘official baby toy tester’.
Use the time of year - Whether it’s a tiny pumpkin next to two big pumpkins or a Christmas decoration on the tree, if it’s a special time of the year try and come up with something related to the celebration.
Get Something Delivered
Why not put together a ‘special delivery’. You could either post something yourself or order it to be delivered directly to whoever you’re telling. Then you just have to sit back and wait for the phone call (or even better video call) when it arrives!
Books - Put together 4 or 5 books into a bundle with a note from your future baby saying they can’t wait for their bedtime stories from their future nanny/auntie etc.
Framed scan photo - This is something lovely they can look at every day.
A photo card - Upload your scan photo and add it to a card on a website like MoonPig. You can then get it sent directly to them.
Cross stitch - If you’re crafty, I’ve seen beautiful cross stitched scan pictures that any grandma would definitely put pride of place.
A riddle - If you search for ‘pregnancy announcement riddle’ there are some great things you can write in cards and enjoy the confusion as they try and work out what it means.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I’ve got a secret and here’s your clue - Include some little booties or a baby vest with a little note with this poem and you will 100% melt hearts.
A little trinket - Whether it’s a necklace or a keyring, something that they can have on them at all times is a lovely reminder whenever they pick up their keys of what is to come. A fridge magnet is another lovely idea that they could look at every day.
A puzzle - If you’re telling a keen puzzler, get a custom puzzle printed and let them slowly reveal the message.
